Feline Behaviors That Can Be Mistaken For Attention-Seeking Behaviors

Cats can engage in attention-seeking behavior as a result of physical and/or emotional issues they are going through. Owners have to deal with their meowing or crying and other attention-seeking behaviors. Here are some behaviors exhibited by cats that may be related to or mistaken for attention-seeking behaviors:

Nocturnal howling

This is often exhibited by senior cats, and attributed to increasing deafness which is age-related or even senility. It could also be feline hyperesthesia, a condition which is also known as rippling skin disorder.

Addiction to food and treats

Like humans, cats can suffer from addiction, especially for treats. While occasional treats won’t cause any harm, failure to exercise restraint can increase a cat’s risk for piling on the pounds.

Persistent meowing

Some cats, like the Siamese and Oriental breeds are known to be very vocal. Some cats even like to carry on “conversations” with their humans. If you’re not crazy about a having a “chatty cat”, you are better off with other feline breeds. But if your normally quiet furball suddenly starts meowing insistently, he could be suffering from pain or other health issues. You should make an appointment with your Louisville, CO animal hospital as soon as possible.
