Are These Behaviors Normal In Dogs?

Some behaviors exhibited by pet dogs will have their pet owners thinking whether these are normal for the breed.

Paw-Licking

Licking their paws is a part of a dog’s grooming regimen. This is a perfectly normal behavior, as long as they don’t overdo it. Obsessive licking of their paws may be caused by skin allergy or an infection. Sometimes it is a habit that has become deeply rooted; it gives a dog something to do when he is bored.

Dreaming

Dogs also have dreams. You may have observed your pet curled up sleeping but his paws are twitching, and he’s whining every now and then. Studies of canine brainwaves during sleep have shown REM-like cycles, which is the stage of sleep when people usually dream.

Drooling

It is normal for dogs to drool when they smell something delicious, like when you’re grilling steaks or opening canned pet food. However, excessive drooling may be a sign of illness, especially when it is accompanied by hiding, chewing, or other behavior problems.

Talk to your Sumner vet to find out the cause and how to treat it. Here’s more information about pets on this site.
