Tumors can affect any species of pocket pet, but rats and mice are especially susceptible. Fortunately, most of these tumors are benign but their size and location can still be a source of discomfort for your pet. Uterine tumors are quite common in female rats. Tumors can also develop in the mammary tissue of both male and female rats.

There have been many scientific studies that were able to demonstrate a strong link between the formation of tumors in rats and mice and diets that contain a high amount of calories and fat. Thus, if your pet is obese or overweight, they may have a higher risk of developing tumors. The ideal base diet of pet rats and mice is pre-formulated rodent food that is available in pellet or block form. This should be supplemented with fruits and vegetables like apples, peas, broccoli, or cauliflower. But you should avoid giving peanuts, corn, or cabbage to your pet mouse or rat because these foo ... Read more »

There are a variety of reasons why a cat’s rear end has an offensive smell. On top of the list are matted hairs around your cat’s anal area. Urine and feces usually collect on the matted hair, making your kitty stinky. Some feline breeds are prone to forming mats, especially long-haired cats, like Persians. Cats that overweight or obese have difficulty reaching their rear ends during grooming. This is also true with arthritic cats. Failing to groom these areas can pave the way for mats to form.

Another important reason why a cat has a smelly behind is urinary tract infection. Bacteria that is causing the infection can cause the urine to smell bad. If ingested, pyrethrins could cause headaches, nausea, and dizziness. After applying a flea dip product on your pet, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
