Your pet is a big part of your life and meeting her needs is pretty high on your priority list. How can you make a point to care for her as her needs arise?

Your pet needs you to be vigilant and to take into account her lifestyle, age, and breed. This will give you a pretty good idea about what she will need from you for care, and it may even help you estimate when these needs will have to be met. Try to anticipate these ahead of time so you can be ready when they arise, and keep a close eye on your pet for signs of readiness for certain tasks to be performed. The better you know your pet, the more effectively you will be able to meet her needs. For additional information, please contact your local Salem, VA vet clinic.

Your cat depends on you to care for her each and every day. While you may do this to the best of your ability, there will likely also be times when your little fur ball needs you to understand when things are a bit beyond your capabilities or comfort zone. This is when you should call upon her veterinarian to meet her needs.

Your cat’s veterinarian is there to handle illnesses and injuries as they arise. He will also handle regular preventative care, well check-ups, and answer any questions you may have. It’s generally time to call the vet when it’s been a while since your last well-visit, if circumstances arise that you are unable to handle on your own, or you aren’t sure what your next course of action should be. For more information, please contact your local Isle of Palms, SC vet clinic.

If you’re familiar with diabetes in humans then you already have a foundational understanding of diabetes in animals. For instance, just like people, canine diabetes can occur in dogs like the Doberman Pinscher when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or the body no longer recognizes what to do with the insulin it has. When there’s not enough it breaks down fat and protein reserves as alternatives causing weight loss, excessive thirst and frequent urination. There are different causes for canine diabetes. Vets believe that the main ones may be linked to obesity, gender, and age otherwise known as genetic predisposition. Other causes include hormone therapies such as those given to female Dobermans to control heat cycles. Pancreatitis and immune system disorders and viral diseases could also serve as causes. Your cat loves when mealtime comes around, as it offers her a way to enjoy herself while also taking care of her body. However, you’ve wondered if you’ve been offering her the right food. How can you tell if she should be eating wet or dry food?

Your cat is her own unique animal that needs you to consider her specific needs when looking at her care requirements. Typical adult cats will consume dry food, but this isn’t always the case. Sometimes they have trouble chewing or digesting it for one reason or another, and a wet food may be more appropriate. Young kittens and cats in their senior years also tend to be well-suited to wet food options. If you aren’t sure what to offer your pet, talk to her veterinarian to determine the best food to meet her needs. Your local Lafayette, LA vet clinic can help you care for your pet. You will soon be adding a kitten to your home, and you can’t help wanting to get ready for her arrival. What pet supply items should you make sure to have on hand for her?

Your kitten will need items to help her meet her needs within your home. Some of these she will be able to use on her own, while others will require a high degree of involvement from a family member. Your pet will need food and water with the appropriate dishes to serve them in, a litter box with litter and items to keep this area clean, a place to rest, a collar, and a flea prevention method. She will need you to purchase a brush to help keep her well-groomed, something for her to scratch on, and plenty of toys to keep her active and happily engaged. Your cat spends the majority of her time within your home, and you want this space to be comfortable for her to be in. However, you know that there may be improvements to be made over time. For example, should you bring her home a cat tree?

A cat tree is a good way to give your pet some space all to herself. It is a multitasking item, and can actually replace a lot of her other pet supply items. This may include her scratching post, a few toys, and possibly even her bed depending on the model you choose. While a cat tree may not be a requirement as far as pet supply items are concerned, many pet owners find that their pets enjoy having one around in addition to all the essentials in their home. For more information, please call your local vet Lafayette, LA.

Jumping up on people is an all-too common behavior in puppies that is often addressed inappropriately by pet parents. It should be noted that most dogs jump up on people because they are rewarded in some way. Leaning down and petting the errant puppy is exactly what he wants thus he will continue to engage in the behavior. When your pup first jumps up on you or any member of the family, no attention should be given to the puppy. You should also instruct house guests or visitors to simply ignore the pup and walk away. If jumping is not reinforced, your dog will eventually learn that he won’t get anything from jumping up on people.

Your cat’s hearing is thousands of times more powerful than our own. Cats have also evolved with a number of special hearing enhancing features. Your cat’s ears are found perched on top of her head, giving them a high vantage point. They are shaped to direct sound into them. Your cat can turn her ears locate the source of sounds she hears and may want to investigate or escape from. She can determine the distance from sounds since her ears work independently. Remove excess wax and debris to keep your cat’s ears clean. Only use a cat-safe ear rinse and cotton balls. You can use cotton swabs but only reach in as far as you can see to avoid damaging the ear canal. Check for scratches, cuts and signs of infection such as redness or swelling and excess or dark-colored discharge. These conditions require medical attention. For more information, contact your West Omaha, NE veterinarian.
