Birds need baths. The best part is, you don’t have to bathe them! They don’t require soap. They just require some clean water to splash around in. The question is, should your bird be allowed to take a bath whenever he wants?

It doesn’t hurt to make sure your bird always has a bowl full of clean water in his cage. You just have to make sure that the bowl is large enough for him to fit in, and that he has a separate bowl to drink out of. You should plan on replacing the water daily, and don’t be surprised if there’s a large mess to clean up.

If you want to avoid the mess, bring your pet out of his cage to take a bath. You can do this every day or as little as once a week. Certain parrots actually like hopping in the shower!

Cats are more easygoing than people give them credit for. Although you may think that your cat will go after your bird if they’re out together, the truth is that this isn’t likely to happen.

Domestic cats may have a hunting streak, but if they remain indoors and are fed on a regular basis, your cat isn’t likely to show anything other than curiosity in your bird.

However, before you let them out at the same time, make sure your cat is used to seeing your bird in his cage, and make sure the bird is used to seeing the cat around. Anytime you let both pets out at the same time, you should provide them with direct supervision.

If your bird shows any signs of distress, remove your cat immediately. For help with first-time introductions, call your veterinary clinic McHenry, IL.

Your cat is a wonderful housemate, and you sincerely enjoy the time you spend with her. However, you find that sometimes your schedules just don’t seem to mesh. How can you enjoy more time you have with your senior cat?

Your cat is older now, and this means that she may not be as active as she once was. You may find her sleeping or relaxing more often, and her life may have a few less play sessions in it. Luckily, you can still interact with your pet when she isn’t feeling up to running around. Curl up with her on the couch and pet her, or take the time to talk to her when you are doing other things. You can augment play sessions so that your cat will be able to participate more readily as well. For additional information, please contact your local Reynoldsburg, OH veterinarian.
