Guinea pigs are social and quite vocal about it. The ubiquitous high-pitched squeal isn’t the only sound they make. This squeal indicates excitement over an upcoming meal or even just to see you. Piggies make a purring rumbling sound when they are content and enjoying themselves. Stroking your pig may result in this purring, as can a good cuddle. And of course guinea pigs purr and rumble when they are with other pigs that they enjoy being with. Your pig will shriek if she is in pain or very frightened. A needle at the vet’s office may bring on this reaction or if she is hurt so watch your pig carefully if you hear this call. Teeth chattering indicates a guinea pig who is upset or angry. Check for irritations or situations that may be upsetting your pig. Pay attention to your piggy and you will soon learn piggy-speak. Click here to get more information about caring your Guinea Pig.
