Both land and seas turtles tend to keep themselves cool by spending time in the water, shade and dirt or even in their shell. If you’re concerned that your Box turtle may be overheated, call your vet right away. Turtles can overheat fairly quickly especially if you leave them out in the direct sunlight for any length of time. Your Box turtle needs lots of shade, access to fresh water, and lots of dirt or bedding to burrow through to keep cool. If you have your Box turtle in a tank indoors, make sure he has access to sunlight, but don’t leave him somewhere that the sun will burn down on for a long amount of time. If you do notice your turtle looking a little lethargic or not responding as usual, call your vet Moorpark, CA right away as he may be suffering from overheating.
