Epilepsy can occur in a small percentage of Black Mongolian Gerbils; however, it is not usually fatal nor does it have lasting effects on the Gerbils. Your vet can help you understand what epileptic seizures are and what symptoms to look for in your Black Mongolian Gerbil. In general, signs of epilepsy may occur around the time your Black Mongolian Gerbil reaches puberty (i.e. 2 to 3 months of age). The frequency and severity of the seizures will generally subside around six months of age. Mild epileptic episodes may involve trance like behavior and excessive twitching of the ears and whiskers. Severe epileptic episodes may involve convulsions, stiffening muscles and even jerking of the entire body. If your Black Mongolian Gerbil is having any of these symptoms call your vet Cypress, TX immediately. If possible, during your Black Mongolian Gerbil’s seizure, try moving him away from anything that may cause him harm such as sharp edges and toys. Read ... Read more »

Do you own a guinea pig? If so, have you ever thought about buying him a couple of toys to have with him in his cage? Contrary to some opinions, guinea pigs do enjoy playing with toys every now and again. Talk to your local pet store associate about possible toys for your guinea pig. Some guinea pigs like playing with little igloo shaped houses. They can easily hide in these, burrow under these, and push them around. Some guinea pigs may also like a toy that makes some type of noise. For instance, there are bobble head type toys that can be placed in the cage. These usually have bells on them. They also have weights on the bottom so when they are hit they simply bounce or bob back and forth. You can also ask your vet clinic Cypress, TX about other toys for guinea pigs.

Ear aches and infections are common in a variety of dogs including Basset Hounds. Symptoms to look out for include scratching the ears, rubbing the ears, and excessive head shaking. If you notice your Basset doing any of these things then you may want to give your vet a call. Your Basset could have an ear infection brewing or some other illness. Most ear infections come from bacteria or yeast in the ears. Puppies may have mites in their ears, which could also cause an ear ache or infection. Your vet can make a diagnosis and recommend treatments such as washing your Basset’s ear with a gentle cleanser. Never use a Q-tip or rubbing alcohol on Basset’s ears. Your vet may also prescribe a medication in the form of ear drops, ointment, or even pill form. Always follow the instructions from your veterinarian Olathe, KS.

Washing a horse blanket can be a pretty big task especially if you own a big horse that wears big blankets. Some horse barns provide heavy duty, large load washing machines and dryers for horse blankets. If you’re not so lucky, you will need to find a place to clean your blanket on your own. Don’t wash or dry your blanket at a laundry mat. The blankets can damage the equipment as they are meant for “people” loads and not “horse” loads. Don’t wash or dry your blanket in your own washer and dryer even if you have heavy duty machines. Horse hair can be tough to remove and it could get on future loads of laundry. The best solution is to have your blanket sent out to a professional blanket cleaner. Your local feed and grain store may have a contact. You can also ask your veterinarian Olathe, KS if he knows of a professional cleaner. For more information, visit this link ... Read more »
