Although you may not have to clip your rabbit’s nails as often as you clip your dog’s nails, they still need a little TLC every now and then.

If your rabbit’s nails are getting a little long, invite a friend or a family member over to help. One of you should wrap the bunny in a towel, exposing only one foot at a time. The other person will be in charge of clipping the nails.

Gently press down on the pad of your rabbit’s foot to expose the nails. Look carefully for the quick. Clip just short of this pink area. If you do accidentally clip the quick, make sure that you have some styptic powder ready.

When you’re done with one foot, rewrap your bunny and expose the next foot until all of your rabbit’s nails have been trimmed. If you need professional assistance, schedule an app ... Read more »

Believe it or not, but some cats can be taught to walk outside! If you want to try bringing your feline friend outdoors, consider one of these leashes.

The most basic leash setup involves a regular collar. Although this can be effective for some cats, if your cat gets startled, he will find it very easy to wiggle out of a basic collar. Instead, choose a harness that goes around the neck and under the front legs. They are nearly impossible to wiggle out of. Some harnesses even look more like jackets, which can be much more comfortable for your furry friend.

Retractable leashes are not a good idea for cats because their behavior can be a bit unpredictable. Choose a shorter, sturdier leash that allows you to keep your cat close at all times.

Watching your hamster pack items away in his cheek pouches can be a lot of fun, but why do hamsters put stuff in their cheek pouches anyway?

In the wild, having cheek pouches that extend all the way to the shoulder is very convenient. These pouches allow the hamster to pack a lot of food away in order to transport it back to the burrow. Some hamsters might transport bedding, or even their babies, in their cheek pouches!

Although your hamster doesn’t need to do this because he has constant access to food and bedding, he still has the instinct to pack his pouches. Just make sure you keep an eye on his behavior. Cheek pouches can become injured, or even hang out of your hamster’s mouth. If you worry that there’s something wrong with one of your hamster’s cheek pouches, schedule an appointment with your vet Carenco, LA. ... Read more »

Walking your dog is important, no matter which breed you have. Unfortunately, the sidewalks can be brutal on your dog’s feet in the summer.

The heat in the summer can make the sidewalks extremely hot, which can be very damaging to your furry friend’s feet. If the sidewalk is hot enough, it can actually burn and blister the pads of his feet.

Instead of walking your dog on the sidewalk, walk your dog in natural areas instead. If you’re walking in the city, let your dog walk in the grass. Natural materials are much cooler than concrete.

You can also choose to walk your dog in the early morning hours or in the evening, when the concrete has had a chance to cool off. Booties are also available to protect your pup’s feet, but you might have to train him first. Your vet Carenco, LA can provide you with ... Read more »

Because cats are naturally most active at dusk and dawn, you aren’t likely to keep your cat asleep all night long, but you can help your cat sleep through most of the night with these tips.

Make sure your cat goes to bed with plenty of food. Just like humans, cats are able to relax most effectively with a full stomach. Plus, your cat is less likely to bug you in the middle of the night for a meal if his food bowl is full.

Provide your cat with plenty of playtime and exercise. If your cat doesn’t get enough stimulation during the day, he’s not likely to be tired when bedtime rolls around.

Keeping to a schedule can help your kitty settle into sleep too. Try and go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time each day.
