Hound dogs make excellent hunting buddies because of their extremely strong sense of smell and hearing. Many hunters also favor these dogs because of their temperament and boundless energy.

Hound dogs are mainly classified into two main groups—the scent hounds and sight hounds.

Scent hounds are known to have the most powerful olfactory sense in the canine world. They possess extraordinary endurance that gives them the energy and stamina to follow a scent trail, one that may cover long distances and wide expanses. Some of these dogs are known to swim through bodies of water when doing their jobs. Popular scent hounds include the Bloodhound, Beagle, and Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Some of the popular sight hound breeds include the Greyhounds, Whippets, and Salukis.

When a dog is tethered, his movements are restricted within a specific area. This practice has often been denounced by many animal right groups as being cruel and inappropriate.

While tethering is useful in restraining farm animals, it should only be used in pets as a way to secure them temporarily, only for a short period of time. However, pet owners should be aware of the fact that many dogs have gotten tangled, injured, and some even died while being tethered.

Tethering is also practiced in many farms to secure their working dogs. It is also a way to prevent dogs from going near or getting into places that are dangerous for them.

A dog needs some training to get used to being tethered before you can leave him alone. Your pet won’t be happy at having his movements suddenly restricted if he is not used to it. Make sure water and/or food a ... Read more »

Playing pleasant music during thunderstorms or fireworks can mask the noise while soothing your cat’s fears and anxiety. Studies and actual cases have also shown that different types of music exert various effects on cats—fast-beat songs can be energizing, while slower ones can be soothing. Sounds of nature such as falling rain or running water have also been shown to calm a fearful pet. Cats can become more alert and energized when they hear fast music or one with chirping birds in the background.

Some cats just sniff their food and turn up their noses, leaving an untouched meal behind. There are several factors that influence a cat’s appetite including the food’s odor, texture, temperature, and taste. With a cat’s strong sense of smell, odor is a major factor that will determine whether they find a meal delicious or not. Warming cat food a little bit has been shown to enhance its odor thus making it more appealing to your pet.

Cat foods are formulated to meet the needs of these obligate carnivores. The high amount of protein and fat adds flavor and make the food more appealing to the cat’s keen senses, and increasing palatability.

The taste buds of cats enable them to distinguish between foods that are bitter, sour, and salty. However, they are unable to identify sweet flavor.

Iguanas can be a lot of fun to feed since they require much more than a basic pellet diet. However, finding the right fruits and vegetables can be difficult.

In general, 25% of your iguana’s diet should consist of vegetables and less than 10% fruit. There are good and bad choices when deciding what to feed your iguana.

Alfalfa, green beans, and snap peas are full of nutrients. Collard greens and even dandelion leaves can be added to your iguana’s diet. Rotate the types of vegetables you feed your iguana to ensure that he gets all of the nutrients he needs.

When it comes to fruit, give your iguana mango and papaya. You can even feed your iguana cactus leaves!

Avoid ice burg lettuce as it doesn’t contain any nutrients that your iguana can use. Rhubarb is poisonous to iguanas and should be avoi ... Read more »
