Part of owning a pet is getting to hold it and spend time with it. Unfortunately, when it comes to adult iguanas, this is often easier said than done.

In general, iguanas don’t want to be picked up, even if they have been handled from a very young age. Their initial reaction is to hang on tightly to whatever it is they are sitting on. Approach your iguana slowly. Don’t try and yank your lizard off of his perch. Release each foot one at a time before picking him up.

Once your iguana’s grip has been loosened, place one hand underneath his shoulders and another hand under his back legs.

After your iguana has been removed from the cage, you can place him in one hand, allowing your forearm to support the full length of his body. If you would like a demonstration, schedule an appointment wit ... Read more »

In addition to their curious streak, cats love climbing tables because the spot gives them a vantage point over most things and situations inside the house. The dining table is also a place where mouth-watering food can be found.

If your kitty keeps on climbing the dining table and making it his temporary lookout point,  it’s time to make the place less hospitable by getting plastic carpet runners and placing them upside down on the table, making the nubs stick out. Their sensitive paws make it hard for them to walk on this new surface, and you will soon find your pet avoiding climbing up on the table.

You can also install cat trees of different heights. Rubbing some catnip on these trees will make them appealing alternatives of the table.

There is also another product that is like double-sided tape that you can temporarily put on the ... Read more »

As your new pet gradually settles down in his new home, you need to start establishing important regimens that will include feeding, potty schedules, and physical activity. Your pooch also needs time alone away from the pack. A crate can serve as a den where he can go to when he wants to take a break from the household activities. Positive reinforcement is also important so he will know you are pleased with his behavior.

Your new pet should never be exposed to too much excitement (such as meeting the neighborhood kids or visiting the dog park) during his first few days in your home. Remaining calm and quiet around him will allow him to settle in easier; you should also spend more time interacting with him to get to know your new pet including his likes and dislikes.

If you are having problems with your pet’s behavior, talk with a Puyallup vet. Find out more from this ... Read more »
