The breed of dog can make a huge difference. Many herding breeds as well as service dogs, like golden retrievers and labs, are much easier to train than other breeds. It also helps if you start training early when your dog is still a young puppy.

First, it is important to heavily train your dog while on a leash. Teach him to heel, stay, and squash pulling behavior. Once your dog walks well on a leash, you can try walking without one.

Choose an open area that isn’t in the city, where leashes are required. Practice calling your dog and walking with him around the property. Make sure you provide plenty of treats and praise.
