Your slobbery dog with really bad breath and dirt-filled fur does not strike you as the type to worry about its food and water dish being in close proximity to where it does its business, but you thought wrong.

As far back as before dogs were even domesticated, this avid instinct to poop far away from its food source and its den, was already instinctual.

If your dog is always trying to escape from the backyard by digging under the fence or jumping the fence or just strolling off freely, you can bet it is to explore and use the “facilities” somewhere far away from its dishes and possibly its dog house.

Keep in mind, a dog’s sense of smell is hundreds of times stronger than people’s, so if poop is close by, then your dog is forced to smell it while trying to eat (dogs do not have access to air freshener).

Service dogs are really amazing in the way they help people cope with their lives. Service dog jobs range from seeing-eye dogs for the blind, hearing dogs for the deaf, mentally-challenged people that get visits and learn skills from a service dog, and so much more.

You are familiar with the service dogs that work alongside of police officers and firemen, but there are service dogs that visit senior citizens to cheer them up and service dogs that assist security guards.

Some service dogs are in charge of assisting in search and rescue missions and other work in winter conditions to aid in finding skiers that may have been hurt in an avalanche.

Service dogs really do not always get the recognition they deserve, but to those people they help, they are heroes.

You have to look twice at what your cat is holding in its mouth and you immediately realize that it is a very dead-looking mouse. If your cat actually brought this to you to see, then this is very important. Your cat is showing off is reward from “the hunt” as if you were its superior cat.

Recoiling in disgust and yelling at your cat to drop it is not quite the reaction your cat is hoping for. Your cat wants a pat on the back. It wants to be told what a good job it did, and a little praise wouldn’t go far astray either.

Imagine when you were a little, little kid and you brought your color-book drawing to your mother and showed it to her. You wanted a compliment from your mother. You didn’t, however, want her to jump up on the nearest chair and scream at the mouse you colored in.

It won’t be easy, but unless you want your cat to eat the dead mouse, you ... Read more »

It is hard to imagine that rubbing your dog vigorously with shampoo and then again to dry it with a towel would cause your dog pain, but it does.

Rubbing a short-haired dog extensively actually jams the hairs and they go under the skin like splinters (and people know what splinters of wood in their body feel like). This can cause mild to serious infections and basically the first time your dog experiences this pain, bath time will be the last thing your dog wants.

Speak to a groomer for tips on how to avoid hurting your dog with shampooing and possibly forgo the towel drying.
